A Monday Where Your Yes Matters

God’s story can move forward without your yes. But you will come alive knowing that you can actively participate in the glorious story that is going forward one way or another. Your name will be written in a book that generations to come will read with wonder. You will be remembered for each brave yes. On Monday and every other day.

Many of us have likened our journey through the pandemic to a never ending series of groundhog days. We feel like we are waking to the same script day in and day out and can’t move the storyline forward until we can safely say the pandemic is behind us.

But what is the purpose of each day you rise to, including today, your Monday, if you are just trying to move through to the other side of this same old same old?

I believe the story of God is not stuck. In fact, in these times when you feel like your life is stuck in quicksand and the pull to keep you here is greater than the force that can pull you out, God’s story is rolling forward, unhindered and fearless.

God has never let any event on earth supercede His kingdom purpose and His greater plan to bring paradise back to earth.

It was true when Adam and Eve saw, took, and ate of the one thing they could not have. The ‘avalanche of sin’ that followed them out of Eden (aptly named by Canadian biblical scholar Darrell Johnson - www.darrelljohnson.ca), had nothing on the overflowing, grace of God that outruns sin each and every time. God went with them out of the garden and moved His story of grace forward, although the consequences were heavy on the shoulders of man and woman for every day to come.

It was true when Noah was the only righteous man left on earth and God in His grace spared Him and His family when He flooded the earth and then offered the chance for a new beginning for mankind.

It was true when Herod set out to kill every Hebrew boy and God’s grace came to Jochebed in the form of a strategy to weave a redemptive basket that Moses would be saved through in order to save His people from Egyptian bondage.

It was true in Esther’s life when she used what she had always kept hidden, her identity as a Jew, to save her people.

It was true when Jesus didn’t run from death but walked into it, defeated it, and rose in defiance of it, so we would be able to follow Him through every tribulation and every trial – to eternal life.

There will never be any perfect moment for your yes to bravely come from your lips than now. What is God asking you to rise to? What moment of obedience is He calling you to? Are you responding with excuses that now is not the best time, because, well, it’s a pandemic after all?

Your yes will never be more crucial after the trial

than in the middle of it, right now.

You see, this is not only a Monday, but a month, and a year where your yes matters. God’s story is not linear or cyclical, or stuck because the world says it should wait and see what happens.

God is using the earthly disasters, catastrophes, disappointments, and seemingly hopeless situations to shine the light of His resurrection power and propelling through your response now more than ever.

You are living in a Kairos moment in the earth.

Heaven’s purposes collide with earth’s destiny and move God’s story forward

when you raise your hand in humble surrender.

The story of God is not cyclical. It doesn’t loop back on itself and repeat the same old same old. It is full of surprises. It is full of momentum. It is not linear. There is a forward movement that will culminate in the beautiful ending your heart yearns for, but can’t even imagine. But it is not only an ending but a new beginning you must believe is the only one worth living and dying for.

Today, Monday, is the day to have a good look at your defining moments and make some decisions about them:

  • WHEN YOU WANT WHAT YOU DON’T OR CANNOT HAVE

  • WHEN YOU’RE TIRED OF WAITING

  • WHEN YOUR BACK IS UP AGAINST A WALL

  • WHEN YOU’VE COME TO THE END OF YOUR OWN RESOURCES OR ABILITY

  • WHEN THE PRESSURE TO BE PERFORM CONSUMES YOUR ABILITY TO BE PRESENT

In each defining moment of your life,

your decision to say yes to the forward moving purpose of God

is a yes that matters to you, to others and to God.

God’s story can move forward without your yes. But you will come alive knowing that you can actively participate in the glorious story that is going forward one way or another. Your name will be written in a book that generations to come will read with wonder. You will be remembered for each brave yes. On Monday and every other day.

Your yes matters.

I believe in you.
