Motivation Monday - How Can This Be Since...
As I get nearer to celebrating Christmas and all the plans I’ve been making to come to fruition, I can’t help but echo Mary’s question about all that seems impossible in my life. Mary’s question becomes more urgent. As I think about unanswered prayers and the hard things and the places where I am still praying for genesis moments, I ask, “How can this be since….?” and I list all of the reasons why God’s promises seem impossible. As Mary herself asked how would God become human and be born from her womb, I am wondering if you are asking for the impossible, but from a place of uncertainty and even unbelief.
What has God promised you that you are answering with “How can this be, since…?”
Why is it so hard to be truly able to completely place our trust
in the master plan of the King of the Universe
when what He has promised
seems literally impossible?
Luke, the writer of this account, was a doctor. He knew about babies. Perhaps that is why he gave the most details on the birth of Jesus. He wanted his readers to understand that this birth was extraordinary, supernatural. Something like this simply did not happen—it was impossible.
But wait! Impossible things are possible with God!
A long string of near-impossible birth stories foreshadowed this birth: Isaac (Genesis 18:10-14; 21:1-7), Samuel (1 Samuel 1), John the Baptist (Luke 1:5-18)—all born in situations that biology and common sense considered impossible. Except that the Creator decided it was good and necessary.
Mary’s question is one we need to ponder as we get closer to Christmas.
And we need to rejoice that the impossible did happen—that Jesus was born into our sinful world, and that he brings life to all who believe in him.
If we remember one thing this Christmas,
in the middle of unanswered prayers,
challenging relationships,
and a world turned upside down,
may we remember that with God all things are possible.
Jesus coming to earth, being born of a virgin,
launched an eternity of fulfilled promises to come.
May we truly celebrate the glory and majesty this week of a God who makes all things possible.
I believe in you. God bless.
