Day 38: Freedom
2 Corinthians 3:17 “Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.”
Galatians 5:1 “It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.”
Romans 6:6-7 “We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin.”
Isaiah 61:1 “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners…”
- Christ sets us free by the power of His Holy Spirit. He maintains our freedom as we learn to live from day to day in the power of His Spirit. Where do you feel you are in chains today? Christ came to set the captives free—no matter what kind of yoke binds you. Invite the Holy Spirit into your prayer time and ask Jesus to show you areas of bondage you may not even be aware of. Lean in to listen and press in for freedom prayerfully.
- We read in Isaiah that God graciously extended the following freedoms to His children and this applies to us today:
- To know God and believe Him.
- To glorify God.
- To find satisfaction in God.
- To experience God’s peace.
- To enjoy God’s presence.
- Yet we do not know true freedom when sin is in the way!
- Unbelief – Discourages us from knowing and believing God.
- Pride - Prevents us from glorifying God.
- Idolatry -Hinders us from being satisfied with God.
- Prayerlessness – Prevents us from experiencing God’s peace.
- Legalism - Defeats our enjoyment of God’s presence.
In order to live each day experiencing the freedom available to you in Christ you must be willing to allow God to transform and heal you. Open your heart and make space for Him to heal the wounds that drive you to cycles of sin (unbelief, pride, idolatry, prayerlessness, and legalism, past hurts, addictions, insecurities). Renew your mind to the new nature you've been given in Christ. Position yourself in a posture of humility and confess your dependence on Him for your freedom every hour of every day.
- Pray for girls who are enslaved and trapped in a lifestyle of sex trafficking. Pray they would be rescued and find true freedom in Jesus Christ. Pray for the many organizations that fight for the freedom of these women
- God keep our land glorious and free! Be ‘on guard’ in prayer today asking for freedom on our Canadian soil. End your prayer time today using the last verse of our national anthem as your prayer for Canada.
Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our Dominion, in thy loving care.
Help us to find, O God, in thee,
A lasting rich reward.
As waiting for the better day,
We ever stand on guard.
God keep our land, glorious and free.
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee!
Remember this today - you are no longer a slave to sin. May you experience a greater measure of freedom and victory today as the result of encountering the powerful love and presence of Jesus Christ.
