TRUE Courage
by: Aisha Nixon
Can you wrap your mind around these two powerful words “true courage”, and live a life that so confidently displays it? There are many of us as women who may have dreams and goals of all sizes. Yet, there’s a percentage of these women who are afraid to even pursue them. Is it because they think they are not capable? Is it because they are concerned about the opinions of others? Is it because they are thinking they might fail? The list of questions can be endless.
From the Bible I want to highlight a couple of women who displayed true courage. The first young lady is Mary, a young virgin, who was the fiancée of Joseph. The angel Gabriel visited her and announced that she would conceive in her womb and give birth to a Son, and she was to name him Jesus. Mary knew that this wasn’t an easy task considering the fact that her culture didn’t condone being pregnant before marriage. Her response to the angel was
Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” (Luke 1:38).
Mary was willing to risk whatever was ahead to fulfill the plans of the Lord. Her words and actions definitely displayed true courage.
The second lady is Esther, who was married to King Xerxes. During his reign, a man named Haman became very angry because Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, wouldn’t bow down and pay respect to Haman. (Important side note: Esther and Mordecai were Jewish, and this was a secret that Esther did not disclose to the King.) Unfortunately, Haman’s wrath led him to have King Xerxes make a decree for all Jews to be annihilated. Mordecai told Hathach, one of the king’s eunuchs, to give Esther the important message that she had to go before the king and make a plea on behalf of the Jews to spare their lives. Her true courage caused her to take action and have all the Jews fast with her for three days. It led her to go boldly before the King and ask for the lives of the Jews to be spared. Miraculously, all of the Jews’ lives, including her own and her uncle Mordecai were spared.
Both of these ladies’ true courage radically changed not only their lives; it notably impacted the future of nations. Imagine that your ‘yes’ can do the same. Your ‘yes’ gives voice to the true courage that you are displaying. So, those dreams that are yet to be realized, and those goals that are waiting to be accomplished, are waiting for a woman like you to take that courageous step. Who knows the nations that will be impacted by your true courage? Who knows whose lives will be truly changed for the better because of your true courage? Your true courage is possible because you believe in God who is with you, and dwells in you. He is able to equip and strengthen you.
The Bible declares, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Philippians 4:13).
Walk into a new season, and be a woman of true courage.
Blessings,
Aisha Nixon
