Motivation Monday - Rahab
I am fascinated by this story of a desperate woman, the prostitute, Rahab. She was the most unlikely woman in the God story, chosen by Him to be part of the divine thread in a lineage that eventually led to Jesus.
She took a risk by displaying a cord. But not just a simple cord. That scarlet cord represented redemption for a handful of Gentiles, her family, whom the spies (one of who she miraculously ends up marrying!), had promised to save from the destruction of her city, if they saw the cord on her window. Yet it also symbolized a greater deliverance. Threaded throughout the Old Testament a “scarlet cord” of Scripture foretold redemption through Jesus, the Jewish Messiah.
She tied the scarlet cord in belief of a God she didn’t quite know yet, but she trusted with her life and the life of those she loved. She didn’t stop to consider whether she was good enough, or could be invited into the family of God with her disreputable background. But she acted on faith.
Sometimes you don’t know how your act of faith in a redeeming God will impact future generations.
Are you willing to make yourself visible, to declare with your lips and show with your actions that your faith in God is greater than your circumstances?
What will you display today to the world that shows you have faith in a God great enough to deliver you?
I believe in you! God bless.
